You should start measuring for made to measure curtains by measuring the correct rail width. Depending on whether you have a curtain pole or track you will measure slightly differently – for poles you should measure the width between the finials and add 2.5 – 3cm to the measurement to allow for overlap, for tracks measure the entire length. Then you should measure the curtain drop in order to have a complete measurement.
Made to measure curtains are all sold in pairs, therefore the curtain sizes should be for the pair. When measuring the width you should have one measurement – if you have curtain tracks which are fixed separately and overlap in the middle make sure to take two separate measurements and add them together to have one overall measurement..
It is common practice for curtains to just touch the floor or hover around half an inch above floor level. However, at the end of the day it can come down to personal preference. For certain window styles, such as kitchen windows, curtains touching the floor is not feasible – for example with café curtains.
